I've played just about every Sid Meir game in existence - the man's track record is unbelievable. The only lesson I've learned from all of this is that Sid Meir believes that the player should NEVER go to war, a view that does not extend to his AI, which seems to want to emulate MOO's "final war". In fact, I've taken such heavy losses via reverting that I resorted to garrisoning only one or two riflemen, and leaving the cavalry outside. My staggering culture, and the number of troops I garrison appears to have no effect. I've been trying to crush my obstreporous neighbor, but when I finally do manage to achieve the 9 to 1 ratio of cavalry to spearmen necessary to take some of his cities, they instantly a) are recaptured by spearmen and swordsman who walk right through my defending musketeers and riflemen, or b) the cities promptly rebel and go back over to the other side. As I mentioned in another thread, it make me soooooo mad when I'm rendered ineffective due to a sudden outbreak of really, really bad luck.
